The internet is the biggest advance in human history, which has changed the way of life and workings of the world community. Many people do not realize that the internet that we know today, probably will never exist because a number of "internet" rivals were built at that time. There are certain companies that want to connect all computers in the world to share information, but with their own systems, so people have to pay to access their own 'information superhighway'.
Modern internet is different, and by design, is an open system that allows everyone to use it as they wish, and the system is not owned by anyone, so there is no gatekeeper. This leads to something called 'innovation without permission' - everyone can try new things without the need to request access from a particular gatekeeper. This then brought an explosion of innovation and adoption of the 'open' internet, and became something very broad and large now. This design also indicates that many parts of the internet are 'interoperable' - meaning that the internet I use can be connected to the internet that is used by others in other countries. This is similar to the use of global languages used in the world. Indonesians and Indians will have difficulty communicating, but if they speak English, then everything will be easier. The internet allows everyone to speak in 'one global language'.
In other words, Bitcoin is like the internet. For someone, the internet is not owned by anyone, so anyone can use it at will - there is no gatekeeper. This is also called 'decentralization'. Bitcoin supports 'unlicensed innovation' which allows many people to build companies and applications on the internet so that the product is growing rapidly. Finally, Bitcoin is interoperable - meaning like email and internet, my Bitcoin and your Bitcoin all work in the same system, Bitcoin is a global transaction cash, and when viewed from a certain perspective, Bitcoin is the first global currency in the world.
There are several ways to get Bitcoin:
Like traditional money in general, you can get Bitcoin by selling goods and services, and asking people to pay you in Bitcoin. Usually, accepting Bitcoin is cheaper and easier than other payment methods, and one of the easiest ways to get a bit of Bitcoin.
Another way is the most widely used way to get Bitcoin: buy from a trusted Bitcoin broker or Exchange service provider, like Luno. This method is similar to when you buy foreign currency or shares in a bank online. This is the easiest way to get Bitcoin because you are sure to find someone who will sell their Bitcoin to you on that platform.
You can also have Bitcoin by mining, but this method is very difficult for ordinary people. Most mining is done by large companies with sophisticated and very expensive tools, making it difficult for ordinary people or computers to compete with these companies. So, if you don't have special skills and very much money to spend, you better buy or look for Bitcoin.
